HWT Mission
Hats Will Travel (HWT) provides a platform for travelers of color to share cultural travel experiences. Our community's rich heritage, significant achievements, and historical impact can be found in destinations throughout the world.
Why Hats?
We all know the basic purpose of a hat (protection, style, religion, dress code, fashion). My reason for wearing a hat is simple. I love hats because of what they potentially represent. A hat, brim, fedora, lid, stetson, head piece, sombrero, tam and cap allows me to express my personality in a non intrusive way.
Wearing a hat (or more importantly, choosing a hat) during my travel provides the opportunity to blend into the environment or make a personal statement. Hats are also a wonderful way to openly celebrate cultural differences.
Bucket List
The more I hear this term the less I embrace it's meaning. Sure, I like so many others have goals and experiences I want to achieve before I travel to the great beyond. The representation of a bucket on the surface seems too confining. It has a beginning, ending, and subsequently a limit before overload.
My travel aspirations however have no boundaries. I want an evergreen list that allows me to make changes as freely as the wind blows.
Cultural Awareness
A key component of travel is cultural awareness. Recognizing and understanding the significance of various cultures allows us to embrace our heritage and subsequently appreciate others.
